What are dental implants?
A dental implant is an artificial titanium root that is screwed directly into the jaw bone when one or more teeth are missing. The placement of dental implants is done in three phases. Surgical phase
A small incision is made in the gum to gain access to the bone which is drilled under the presence of of water, according to a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the implant used. The dental implant is screwed into the jaw bone and then covered with the gum tissue which is sutured.
Osseo-integration phase
The dental implant remains buried in the bone from a few weeks to a few months. After this time, the prostheses are placed on the dental implants. Inserted into the jawbone where it integrates into the bone and tissues, the dental implant ultimately replaces the natural root of the tooth.
Installation of prostheses
Prostheses can be either pure ceramic or have a precious or non-precious metal framework.
